By incorporating a wide range of vibrant colors, students are able to express their ideas more vividly and with greater detail, fostering a deeper connection to their learning. We've recently used them in our 5 types of Chemical Equations project. \r\n\r\nFor instance, in science, students have used colored pencils to label diagrams, distinguish between different processes, and illustrate chemical reactions, leading to a more interactive and hands-on learning experience.\r\n\r\nMoreover, the new colored pencils have supported students' fine motor skills development, as they practice precision and control when using the various shades in their work. In addition, the colored pencils have contributed to a more inclusive and accessible learning environment, as students with diverse learning styles have been able to better represent and process information. When we have a day when the students need an activity to calm down, I use coloring sheets and the colored pencils to create a relaxing classroom environment. \r\n\r\nThe students acted with gratitude and appreciation. They appreciate it when the community comes together to support their classrooms. Using colored pencils for posters on chemical reactions can really help students visualize and engage with the content in a new way. The students and I also like having a lava lamp around. Lava lamps are a good way to demonstrate concepts like heat transfer, density and light absorption and the students really like the lamp.","fullyFundedDate":1741047755601,"projectUrl":"project/classroom-supplies/8927791/","projectTitle":"Classroom Supplies!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Koshy","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9266649_orig.jpg?crop=657,657,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1695663160173","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9266649"},{"teacherId":9782689,"projectId":8835594,"letterContent":"The flexible seating you have sponsored has been such a positive addition to the classroom. Students were initially surprised that a classroom would have this kind of space (having only seen traditional desks before), and were very excited. Ninety percent of students who responded to an anonymous survey had positive things to say about the flexible seating (other respondents were either neutral or said they got distracted when using the poufs). Among the more articulate responses were:\r\n\r\n\"They are a really nice add on to the class.\"\r\n\"En algún break que tengamos podemos descansar.\"\r\n\"Flexible Chairs are always good because a good chair can lead to more focus.\"\r\n\"Me gustan, muy cómodos.\"\r\n\"They are very comfortable, very unique. I like them a lot. It helps me focus more when I'm more comfortable.\"\r\n\"It's a good addition to the room.\"\r\n\"I LOVE THE BEAN BAGS!\"\r\n\"I love these things [the flexible seating] and also they good for my growing pains. They are comfortable.\"\r\n\"I like these options but also keeping the normal chairs.... Some days people have energy or just can't sit still, but other days those same people might just want a normal chair. I like the flexible seating though I wish more classes had it.\"\r\n\"I think that is good [to have flexible seating] because the normal chairs get uncomfortable, so it's nice to have other options.\"\r\n\"They were a nice touch to the room.\"\r\n\r\nI really enjoy how students move the chairs around at the beginning of class, deciding what will work for them on a particular day. For the desks, we now have three options: traditional chairs, wobble stools, and a couple rock-style chairs. It's been a valuable process for students to learn to self-regulate their behavior in this setting, a life-long lesson and something that I have seen in school with more 'privileged' / higher SES students. Given a greater variety of options, they are learning what works for them! It also gives students a friendlier space with the feeling of more autonomy and collaboration during 'independent work time.'
