Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

My students have challenges with interaction and, at times, compassion. They are exposed to things they should not be exposed to and deal with situations that create upset feelings inside them. It can be hard to be compassionate when you have so much you are dealing with yourself.

We have selected books about kindness, empathy, and compassion that will allow for them to look at themselves and others, and develop a greater tolerance for people by way of discussion and acceptance.

The conversations we will have will center around caring for others, how it makes them and the other person feel, and ways to be more kind and compassionate.

To measure the success of our work we will chart examples of "compassion" moments in which they participated, and share with with all other students that are participating. These moments can spark ideas in other students and be rich with thoughts for discussion.
