Passion Projects in Speech Class!

Help me give my students a class set of Talk Like Ted books and podcasting equipment for their senior year passion projects in Speech/Communications class.

My Project

In his book titled Talk Like Ted, Carmine Gallo states that "Ideas are the currency of the twenty-first century." (2014). It is my goal as a high school ELA teacher to provide numerous opportunities for my students to explore not only new ways of thinking/ideas, but also to be able explore their own unique ideas and passions.

For their senior year Speech/Communications class, my students will be working on a passion project throughout the entire semester, during which they choose an idea that lights a spark and/or that they are interested in exploring more.

This exploration will culminate in an end-of-the-year presentation of their ideas.

In order to enhance this exploration, I am requesting funds for a class set of Gallo's book to help students build their confidence and learn tips from the Ted talk "pros." In addition to the books, I would love to have podcasting equipment in my classroom as an avenue for students to share their ideas.

As these students head out into the world after graduation, it is my hope that this project will help them continue to be curious, wanting to explore the things that bring them to life and be more confident in their presentation and communication skills!
