This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classroom consists of diverse, energetic students with big personalities! They are hardworking with lots of questions about the importance of math. Our school focuses on the importance of STEM classes and college readiness. With this in mind, my goal is to teach students the importance of math and help them make important connections between math, STEM classes, and life through inquiry based learning.

My Project

Fashion design is a part of CTE classes. Unfortunately our school does not offer fashion design as a class.

My solution to this was creating a fashion design club!

With these items, I will be teaching students basic sewing skills. We will learn how to place and cut fabric, align and read patterns, as well as threatening a sewing machine. Using the mannequin, we will learn how to create patterns.

We will also be exploring careers in the fashion industry! As a math teacher, I will be pointing out how mathematics is used throughout the fashion industry.
