This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I teach a group of amazing children in a charter school in DC. My students come from a high needs community. Most of the students from my school receive free lunch and have been victims of a poor environment.
My students were born into poverty. Many have come from schools where behavior limited the learning they received. This hindered their progress, which resulted in most of my students being behind grade level. With the upcoming DC-CAS, many of my students are not ready because they have very limited test taking strategies. Their last teacher left unexpectedly as well, which left them a little lost. I have been trying to show them that they can still have a very successful year and do very well on the DC-CAS as well if they work hard. Unfortunately, we do not have all the resources to get them prepared to be great test takers. I am hoping that you will help them by supplying them these priceless resources.
I believe that with test taking strategy games and independent test taking strategy materials, my students will lose their fear of tests and become great test takers. Our school focuses on college prep and I want my students to learn the test taking strategies starting this year so that they can not only rock elementary tests, but also the SATS and other future tests! I am asking for Math and ELA Overhead kits that I could use during whole class instruction where I could show my students thinking strategies while they use the worksheets to do it along with me. ELA and Math test questions on rings are being requested for my students to use at a center.
