My Students

"Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today" Malcolm X. My students struggle with understanding and implementing the writing process.

My students have learning disabilities and are being served in a self contained class setting.

Most of the students I serve have behavior plans. I feel this is due in large part to the fact that they have been unsuccessful in school for so long. Well over 95% of them have failed on standardized tests.

My Project

In an attempt to help them make a connection between the writing process and what they will be expected to exhibit on the state assessment and the "real world", we are creating books that will be published. Most of the students come from homes that are broken and high poverty. The printer requested will be used to copy their writing pieces into a form so they will be able to be sent to the publisher.

This project is so important because it is the last chance my students will have before they are placed into programs where they will definitely not qualify for a state diploma.

Their scores to this point have been at the bottom. I want them to see that writing can be fun. Effective/efficient writing is a skill that is a necessary for success in life. Thank you for your consideration.
