I am a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district. My kiddos and their families are faced with numerous challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and impactful learning experiences.
My students' needs outside of the classroom often overshadow their ability to recognize the importance of the work being done in the classroom.
Many of them are being raised in single-parent households and they all receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical".
When they come in my room though, they know I focus on their potential and growth in a safe and welcoming space. I may not be able to control the way they are treated in their home lives, however, I can certainly work hard to create a great and loving experience during the school day.
This project comes from long conversations with many of the parents in my classroom. With the school year already winding down and the unfortunate fact of testing season approaching quickly, all of my third grade parents are worried about their child's success on the Third Grade Reading Guarantee.
Parents already play such a pivotal role in their children's education, but oftentimes don't know where to turn for the best resources to help their children grow outside of the classroom: this project aims to help bridge that gap!
Giving parents access to high-quality workbooks that support student learning and sight word flashcards to practice for a few minutes every day will greatly boost learning at home and also provide a great way to spend quality family time together.
Of all the projects I have posted this year, this project is by far the most urgently needed project, as my parents and my school community are eagerly awaiting any and all resources to help grow kiddos. We would love any support you can give. Let's help grow our children both in school and at home by providing families with the best resources without fear of the cost.
