My Students

Have you ever seen a child finally realize that they are a reader? It is that moment when they might say, "I can read any book I want!" It is the most magical and empowering realization for a child.

My students are striving readers that work diligently each day to increase their competencies in reading and writing.

They have a deep desire to read books about topics that interest them and share ideas and stories through writing.

My students often come to my classroom with minimal literacy experiences and as a result find literacy learning difficult. Many of my students come from single parent families where their parents work hard to provide for them. When these parents are valued, involved, and brought in as partners in their children's education they are able to support them at home.

As a reading interventionist and Reading Recovery teacher, I come alongside my students to provide opportunities to build the independence, flexibility, and initiative it takes to problem solve in reading and writing. I get to work with my students' classroom teachers and parents. Together we work to support our students in literacy learning that has the power to change lives.

My Project

Have you ever helped a child learn to read? Did you ever wonder what to say when a student found something difficult in reading a book or writing a story? Help me connect with the parents and teachers of my students through the use of an iPad Air in order to empower them to support their students at home and in the classroom. Learning how to help students learn to read begins with observation and collaboration among all stakeholders. Using an iPad Air in my classroom would provide me with a way to share how my students and I work together.

Sharing how we work through the tricky parts of reading and writing will empower teachers and parents by showing them to how to support our students who find literacy learning most difficult.

Using an iPad Air in my classroom would allow access to applications like SeeSaw that are available to connect with my students' families and classroom teachers confidentially. The iPad Air provides a platform that will allow me to share videos, photos, and commentary with the aim of building understanding in how to help these students move forward in their reading and writing proficiency. When we work together we can accelerate our students growth and catch them up to their same age peers. Together we can impact the lives of these students and open their world through literacy learning that will last a lifetime.
