My Students

Many of my students come to me from low-income families. Single parents are raising most of our students. Ten percent of my students live with a grandparent or a foster parent due to their parents being unfit. Most of my students receive free or reduced-price lunch. Throughout the year we are made aware of our homeless students. These students need extra care and attention.

I try to be an emotional support to as many of my students as I can.

I provide supplies to many of my students because they just don't have the money for school supplies. School supplies are a low priority when you are homeless and without other basic necessities. I teach rec so I am able to play with my kids while they learn different skills. I also coach basketball and work with many of my students on the court.

My Project

I teach in a low-income school in central Ohio. We have Chromebooks but unfortunately, they don't always work and our students break them a lot. I try to have my students complete and submit many of their assignments online to help reduce the use of paper. However, some topics in science are hard to manipulate on a Chromebook. In addition, some of my special needs students do not do well with learning topics on the Chromebooks.

Access to paper is imperative to teaching forces and motion and other science topics.

Our school has already gone through our paper budget for the year which means we will not be able to make paper copies of assignments or we will have to use our own money to purchase paper for our classes. Any help you can give is appreciated.
