I am a language arts teacher at a low-income, high poverty, Title One funded, urban school where approximately eighty percent of our students qualify to receive free or reduced-price lunch. Our school population is truly diverse I know that my students are faced with ongoing challenges both in and out of the classroom that impact their learning. The majority of our students are Hispanic or African American, representing approximately ninety percent of our total school population.
Providing students with classroom resources and materials to help level the playing field is extremely important to me.
Whether it's books, or consumable materials or snacks and rewards, hands-on resources, everything fits together like the pieces of a puzzle to create a classroom home and learning environment for all students. Students want and deserve to learn at high levels without worrying about having the necessary materials and focus on achieving and growing as learners.
Students and staff working together on academic and social emotional needs.
My Project
Students throughout the school year are always in need of supplies whether through losing or the use of the basic supplies such pencils and pens. Providing students with basic supplies helps keep learning moving forward.
Bic mechanical pencils, Pentel pens, Post-It notes, and Staples composition books and notebook paper are just a few of the necessary day to day supplies needed.
Even Duracell batteries are needed to keep electronics and remotes moving forward with the time that is passing this school year.
Supporting the most basic of school supply needs is extremely helpful in ensuring students have needed supplies.
