Hello! I am a second year fourth grade teacher in North Carolina. I teach at a low income, at risk school. Many of our students come from disadvantaged homes, and we are very culturally diverse with an extremely large ESL population. I am in desperate need of basic supplies. At the beginning of the school year, I have asked for parents to donate supplies for the class to supplement the minimal allotment given to us by our school district. Unfortunately, based on my experience last year, I do not anticipate much being returned to my classroom. In this proposal, I am asking for a classroom set of crayons, highlighters, pencils, colored pencils and construction paper. I am also requesting a desk organizer that I will use for the writing center in my classroom. This will help maintain organization and cleanliness within my classroom. To start with, I am requesting various sets of pencils, including birthday pencils, and Student of the Week pencils. These will be used as an incentive for the well-behaved students as a treat, as well as a small gift for their birthdays. I am also asking for a classroom set of crayons. My students will be able to utilize these crayons in various parts throughout the year, and having this classroom set will ensure that each student will have the same resources, despite the differences in incomes. In addition to crayons and pencils, I would like to request packets of construction paper for the students to use for their different art projects in my class, including creating covers for their larger stories. The highlighters that I have requested will be utilized during small group reading instruction to help the students focus on the main idea of the stories, as well as during writing instruction to highlight errors that need to be corrected. I hope that with some of these basic supplies for my fourth graders, we can have a successful year. Thank you for taking the time to read my proposal.
