This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are curious, creative, and eager to explore photography in new ways. They love experimenting with techniques that allow them to express themselves and see the world from a different perspective. Photography gives them the opportunity to combine technical skills with artistic vision, and they are ready to take their learning to the next level.

We are beginning a unit on Painting with Light, a photography technique where students use long exposures to “paint” images in the dark using flashlights and other light sources.

To capture these magical images successfully, students need stable tripods to keep the camera perfectly still during long exposures. Without them, photos turn blurry and the effect is lost.

We also need UV filters to protect our lenses during frequent student use, ensuring our equipment lasts longer. Lens caps are another essential piece. We are currently missing several, leaving cameras at risk of scratches and dust.

By having these tools, students will not only learn an exciting professional photography technique, but they will also gain respect for caring for equipment and working like real photographers.

With these materials, students will be able to capture their artistic visions clearly and confidently. The experience of painting with light is inspiring and unforgettable—it allows students to literally create art with movement, time, and imagination.
