Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This year, I have the pleasure to be teaching Art 1 and Art 2 to about 230 students. Since I am teaching Art 1, we have to learn the basics, I try to make it as fun as possible. I teach 6th, 7th and 8th grade, but my biggest bunch are 6th graders.
They all come with different sets of skills but they all have one goal in my class, to be better than they were yesterday.
Every day they come in they are determined to do just that.
I really enjoy teaching Art I because they are very enthusiastic about learning new techniques and learning how to get their artistic voice.
Seeing the moment my kids overcome a challenge is the best feeling in the world, I can sense their triumph when they say, "Yes! I finally got it!"
They also like to teach and correct each other in a positive manner. They enjoy bouncing ideas off each other. My class allows them to be as free as they can with their ideas!
I would like to challenge them with harder projects and expose them to different materials.
My Project
Every year I try to expose the students to different painting projects. This year I want to do at least three projects. I have 240 students that are extremely excited to paint. Art One is going to learn the color wheel.
Art Two is going to learn how to blend different color shades to create a 3D effect on their work.
We are all going to create a piece from observation utilizing these paints and watercolor paper. I try to buy the half gallons so that I can refill the smaller bottles using the funnels for easier pours.
We are also going to be working with color pencils so we need sharpeners.
