My Students

My students have behavior and psychological issues. They are inquisitive, compassionate, and creative yet struggle in the standard classroom. They are often sent to psych hospitals and other alternative settings. My students in a word are the “difficult” kids. They don’t know how to express their emotions and frustrations. Oftentimes my students just need to be able to see the good in themselves in order to break the cycle and become that successful student.

My Project

The materials I am requesting will be used to assist my students in dealing with the many emotional and traumatic events, they have experienced. They will use the canvas as a mirror into their thoughts and emotions.

By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student artistic ability, you will ultimately help to increase their mental health and academic achievement.

Each student will be painting 3 self portraits. They will receive 3 canvases and as much paint as necessary. The first canvas will be used to illustrate how they often see themselves and their thoughts. The second canvas will be used to illustrate how they think others see them. The students will compare the two paintings and attempt to merge the characteristics into a more realistic version of who they are. This new merged version will be their third painting. Painting will give my students not only an outlet for their emotions but also a feeling of success at seeing their completed pieces of art.
