Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are hardworking, passionate, and they love a challenge. They are a diverse group of eager learners who love to laugh, get messy, and work in teams. Yet, each day when I say, "time to read," I can see over half of my students sinking into their chairs. The torn and wrinkled pages of the very old books in my current library just don't get kids excited.

My students are bright and ready to make our world a better and more beautiful place!

Taking time to do an art project that helps tie into their self-confidence is a wonderful way to incorporate art into our day to day curriculum.

My Project

A child's face could be considered one of the most personal and beautiful aspects of a parent's life. Faces can communicate fear, love, curiosity, and pure joy. Every child's face is genuine. Every child's face tells a story. Every child's face, no matter its appearance, has value, and a history behind it. Everyone's face is a gift!

All our faces hold beauty and uniqueness, therefore, I want my students to celebrate this diversity by having them paint their own faces.

I want to take photos of my students, and then read a few wonderful stories about human faces to my students. Next we will paint frames using the paint and brushes which shall hold pictures of our own faces. Last, we will write positive messages to ourselves on the frame.

I hope that the kids will begin to appreciate that although diverse, each face in our classroom is amazingly unique and deeply valuable. Hopefully, students will keep these pictures as a reminder that they are special and unique in their own way.
