My middle school art room is a place to use imaginations and challenge ourselves artistically. Students learn how to use the principles and elements of design while creating artwork in various media. My students are 6th and 7th graders in a suburban Massachusetts middle school.
My students are always excited to come to art and learn new techniques.
They take pride in their work, especially their drawings. Out of the box ideas are encouraged as students are reminded to make original work that is meaningful to them.
My Project
My classroom needs more Blickrylic acrylic paints. We use acrylic paints to paint our fun Pop Art clay food sculptures in grade 6. In grade 7 we learn in depth about color theory and apply this knowledge as we create our landscape paintings. Learning about the properties of colors and mixing our own tints and shades are really engaging for my students.
The hands-on experience of mixing and applying paint really bring my art lessons to life.
Paint is really fun and forgiving medium. Students learn abstract and realistic techniques such as blending, texture, glazing, atmospheric perspective, layering, and splatter. Acrylic paints are perfect to work with and dry quickly for students to continue to work their designs.
