The dry-erase boards and stools have been especially helpful during our math lessons, allowing students to work together, move around the classroom, and share their mathematical thinking. The boards give every student a chance to solve problems and show their work without the pressure of having to put an answer on the classroom board. The flexible seating has also helped create a more comfortable and collaborative environment where students can work with their classmates and learn from one another.\r\n\r\nThe students were very excited to see all of the new supplies arrive, especially the new classroom seating and individual whiteboards. The candy has also been a fun addition to our classroom and has been used as an occasional incentive and reward to celebrate students' hard work and accomplishments. Having everyday classroom necessities like pencils, napkins, bowls, and cleaning supplies has also helped ensure that our classroom is well-stocked and ready for learning each day. These may seem like small things, but having access to these resources makes a big difference in creating a welcoming and well-equipped classroom.\r\n\r\nAs we continue through the school year, my students will use these materials during collaborative math activities, problem-solving challenges, and lessons that require them to explain and defend their mathematical thinking. The Micro:bits have completely transformed my classroom into a hands-on coding lab! We've been using them to bridge the gap between abstract code and physical results. My students absolutely love to be able to see what their code can do in real life. Our first project was to turn their Micro:bits into personal name badges. Seeing their own names scroll across the LED lights gave them an immediate sense of ownership over their work.\r\n\r\nOne of the most popular activities has been the music-making feature. I watched a group of students who were initially intimidated by coding spend an entire period captivated, experimenting with frequencies and 'composing' digital songs. The room was filled with beeps, boops, and cheers every time a student successfully added a new sound to their code!\r\n\r\nNow that we've mastered the basics like making name badges and digital Rock Paper Scissors, we are moving into more complex 'real-world' applications. Our next big challenge is building step counters! In their absence I would like to explain the impacts they've had on my class and LGBTQ+ Club!\r\n The rug has been one of my favorite things in my classroom I have ever received. It makes the room feel brighter, safer and provides a place to sit and meet. Even the custodians have complimented it and told me it makes them happy when they see it. \r\nMy club and classes use it to sit on when we watch videos on screen. It also had made myself safer covering up some wires kids could trip over.\r\n The snacks have also made the club meetings better! After a long school day, the kids could use a little snack. I feel it has also increased the membership of kids coming to our club meetings! We are so grateful.
