Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Books that spark a student's imagination are necessary to foster a love for learning. We enjoy reading intriguing books which create opportunities for students to participate in meaningful discussions. Thunderhead is a sequel to the novel Scythe by Neal Shusterman. The students have been expressing interest in reading the second book and seeing as we are nearing the end of the year, we plan to finish it off by reading a book they so dearly have been requesting. The magnetic bookshelves can be used to display the books and make them visually present. Other books can be placed on them too so that students can have a variety of options to choose for independant reading.
The right books can capture the imagination of even the most reluctant readers.
With engaging titles, we can inspire our students to develop a lifelong interest for reading, expanding their knowledge and vocabulary along the way. As we read, there are some students that fidget and in order to maintain their focus, the bubble pops provide a mild form of physical activity. Without being disruptive, this action allows students to satisfy their need for movement while remaining engaged in their learning tasks.
Pencils too are always a necessity in the classroom. Students are more likely to return a smaller pencil after they borrow one. The clothespins can create an easy pencil checkout system. Students can borrow a pencil and grab two clothespins: one is clipped on their sleeve and the other is put on the white board.
