This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are creative and unique. However, because of the reputation of the neighborhood, their creativity and uniqueness is often bypassed. Despite adversity, many of my students are still eager to learn. They love learning about new places. They love for me to give them both sides of a controversial topic. Man can they argue! Unfortunately many of them struggle to transfer their delicately crafted arguments to paper. They are a quite funny bunch. I’m guaranteed a good laugh daily.
My Project
Many of my students groan when asked to read or to write. It is a daily struggle to motivate my students daily. It is my goal to ignite a literacy fire in my students I plan to use The Hate U Give to foster a love for reading among my students. I will also use the book to teach many concepts that my students struggle to master such as theme, complex characters, characterization, and plot. I will also use part of the book to teach valuable social and emotional development topics such as responsibility, empathy, self-awareness, and code of conduct.
