This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I work with students who come from various backgrounds, many of whom are English Language Learners from low-income families who have the drive to learn. These students are friendly and love to be engaged and immersed in the English language and our school culture.
Many of my students have limited access to opportunities due to family structure and responsibilities.
Many of them are beginning a new life in this country and deal with isolation, transition, and adjustment to the expectations of a new culture and school system.
My Project
Almost all of my students come from low-income families and they were hit extremely hard by COVID-19 pandemic. Many of my students lack even the simple school items such as backpacks. Our school started hybrid instruction about a month ago. While I still have students online, half of my student started to come into the school building.
These backpacks will help my students carry their school assigned laptops as well as their lunches and personal hygienic items during in person schooling.
