I teach at a large urban middle school with a very diverse student population. Every student in our district receives free breakfast and lunch due to the high poverty in our community. Many of our students come from hard-working families. They just need some help.
Many students at my school rely on our building's food pantry to supply them with enough food to get them through remote learning days, and weekends at home.
Due to the high rate of food insecurity in our city, many students leave school unsure when or what their next meal will be. During a time of growing need, this is a way we can support the students who need it most!
My Project
We all know that children cannot learn without their basic needs being met. Having a food pantry as a resource is critical to our student's success. Items like chicken soup and oatmeal might seem like small things, but they make a huge impact on a child in need. In addition to our food pantry being available to students throughout the week, backpacks filled with food are sent home with our school's most needy students several times a week.
Due to the COVID 19 pandemic, keeping the pantry well-stocked has been a struggle for us, as the need is greater than we have resources for.
Having your donations provide these high need items is the most helpful way for us to restock and replenish our supply of food.
