Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

With a class set of 18 Ozobots, I will create computer science-integrated curricular lessons for students at Mount Vernon in grades K-5 across subject areas. Ozobots are amazingly adaptable to every age, from pre-readers to those at an advanced skill level in reading and computational thinking. These tiny robots, loved by students for how "cute" they are, can follow lines as well as color codes created by students for activities such as escaping slavery on the Underground Railroad, correctly identifying the solution to a double-digit addition problem, or identifying short vowel sounds in CVC words. Ozobots can also connect via Bluetooth to an online block-based programming language, giving students crucial foundational learning in coding principles, to do things like react the way a character did to certain moments in the plot line of a story, or travel across a surface the ways a sound wave would through various states of matter.

Ozobots have a low barrier to entry, requiring no background knowledge from students to start learning computer science in class.

These amazing, versatile tools will allow me to provide enriching, project-based learning opportunities for all students at our school, integrating computer science and robotics into our daily curriculum to enhance students' learning in all subjects. Thank you for helping me provide this tool for the future, and for helping to build equity of learning opportunities for all M. School students!
