Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Students in my classroom show interest in learning. They have the eagerness of learning new topics each day. When they sit at the carpet and get ready to listen to a story, they become very attentive. Story time is one of their favorite activities in the classroom. My student become interested in the story that even though they can't wait to get to the ending, they tend to always want to express text connections.
Story time sometimes goes longer than expected.
Discussing story elements and any relation to their lives, is enriching. It amazes me to see that at a very young age, my students can start to make connections to texts and to the 7 habits that we practice at school.
Literacy is a key component in my classroom and as so I would like to continue to instill the practice and desire of reading in my my classroom.
My Project
The headphones are intended to be used during listening centers. I want to provide students with being able to listen to the text as they follow along. I can't never have enough books to share with my students. Books provide a "never ending" supply of words. Children are at their most important learning stage, and what better way than this to fill up their "computers" with an infinite amount of vocabulary words? These books would be used during listening center, with their headphones, and on a different station they will use the phonics cubes. When students learn the rules and practice phonics, these can then be applied in their readings. Which in all, increase their ability to decode and read fluently.
