Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is located in San Diego. Our neighborhood is made up of many hard working Hispanic families. Most of my students are English language learners. Some of them are the only English speakers in their families. My school is somewhat unique, in that it is kindergarten through eighth grade. Parents choose to send their children there because of that reason. This creates a very tight knit, nurturing environment for students to learn in and teachers to teach in.
My Project
I am requesting the donation of an owl pellet dissection kit to use in my fourth grade classroom. The current science curriculum my school is using, leaves a lot to be desired. Life science is an exciting standard for kids to learn about, but that is our most boring unit of all!
Last year, I did some research and found that teachers all over the United States are dissecting owl pellets with their students, to teach them about life cycles!
I purchased 6 owl pellets, and wow, what a difference in the excitement level of my classroom! My students were engaged and excited to do science!
