Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I'm lucky enough to teach a great group of eager learners in first grade. Students in my class are excited and ready to give their best everyday. As first graders, they are just beginning to make the connection between their mindset and how it impacts their education.
My students are of primary importance.
As an educator, just like many on this site, we have the opportunity to see tomorrow, today when we work with our class. Please consider helping create an opportunity that wouldn't be available without you.
My Project
My students have been learning about arctic animals, specifically the artic owl (snowy owl). During our reading and research, students had a challenging time understanding how an owl could eat 5 lemmings per day and eat them individually in one gulp!
Owl pellets are a simple way to introduce students to dissection and engage in a hands-on manner with an animal's food chain.
Students will be excited to sort and classify bones that are contained within the owl pellet and discuss how this animal's environment impacted their diet.
We need your help. It is my plan to use these owl pellets as a hands-on activity for both students and their parents as the culminating project of our animal reports that we've been working on in writers workshop.
