My Students

My sixth-grade students come to middle school excited for new opportunities! The majority of our students come from four different elementary schools. Students bring their unique experiences to our class where we join together to create a unified team.

In our class, we embrace the Power of Yet.

Math class can be an area of struggle and anxiety for students. Our students are encouraged to share their thinking and learn from each other. If something isn't understood, it isn't understood YET. We strive to work as a team to support, encourage, and celebrate our math successes!

My Project

To prepare for our state testing, our sixth-grade teachers create ISAT Island using the theme of the television show "Survivor." Our students are placed into tribes and work through test review activities using the Survivor slogan "Outwit, Outplay, and Outlast." All sixth-grade classes are involved, either reviewing math and English Language Arts content or reviewing test-taking strategies. To conclude the week, students work with their tribes to compete in challenges to earn the title of Ultimate Survivor. When testing week arrives, our students are prepared! To give them last-minute motivation, our teachers put notes and encouragement items in student lockers each day.

By donating to my project, you will be helping provide postcards, pencils, and stickers to give students just-in-time encouragement before testing.

With the testing schedule, teachers may not see their students in the morning before testing. However, our teachers write personalized notes to each of our 280 students so they have words of support to start their day.
