My Students
I work at a Title I school, where about three-fourths of our student population are English Language Learners and almost all of our families are low-income or homeless. Many of our students come from migrant farming families and move frequently throughout their school year, sometimes going periods without being enrolled in school because of this.
Our students come from wonderful, hardworking families and need a little extra love and support at school!
They are very kind and caring and incredibly resilient!
My Project
Even though students today are constantly inundated with technology, few understand the full potential and reality of technological advancements in everyday life. Additionally, it is difficult for students to see how closely intertwined math and their favorite "games" truly are since many of them are not exposed to applied math until later in their education.
I would like to integrate Ozobots into our math and science lessons to open my students to a world of opportunity in STEAM.
Using Ozobots in the classroom will encompass all aspects of STEAM education. Through using Ozobots (Science), students will learn how to write code with a program similar to Scratch (Technology) as well as learn about polygons and their angles (Math) by measuring and creating "courses," (Engineering) or various polygonal abstract forms (Art).
Since this is a chance few students receive, I would like to teach them coding and applied math while still young to spark an interest and desire to continue their own STEAM education.
