Help me give my students a great foundation in the 2D and 3D art forms by having quality materials like good brushes, good acrylics, plaster gauze and colorful sculpture wire to create fantastic Art!
My students are not natural born artists, but they are open to trying new projects and working hard to complete each one. I have them start with very simple directions, then add to it to achieve a desired look.
Sometimes it is a challenge for the kids to get over the thought, "I'm not a good artist." So when I have them do projects, we start with very basic skills, and build on those skills to accomplish a complex project.
I like to base our projects in historic artifacts, so they get the knowledge of which culture had done something similar-then expand on it.
My Project
Every culture has created masks to exhibit spirituality of their people. Through dance, ritual, and dramatic theatre, masks are used to take on a special character or persona that is celebrated.
Our mask project will celebrate their individuality by incorporating the principles of design and use of color.
Masks are a fun way to get creative and to look into different cultures in history and what purpose they were used for. They could be for harvest, fertility, or a dramatic performance. The paster gauze will be the foundation of the mask, the paint and the brushes will be used to paint it and the wire will be used to decorate it.
