My Students

I work in a low-income area with a diverse blend of students. We have strong Native American and Finnish populations.

The students I work with are in 6th through 8th grade.

My students work very hard and would benefit greatly from extra incentives.

My students enjoy reading chapter books. I have found them to be a very valuable teaching resource. My students will actually read ahead and ask, "Are we reading today?" This lets me know that they are really enjoying what they are reading.

My Project

My 8th graders read the book "The Outsiders" every year. I do not have enough copies for each of my students, and the copies that I do have are falling apart.

Each year, my 8th graders state that this was their favorite book of the year.

This story lets my students see how teenagers in the city are both similar and different from them. The book teaches many lessons about friendship, bravery, and survival. Many of my students talk about the book even after they leave 8th grade.

By helping me get these books for my classroom, you are helping my students see the world from other students' eyes.
