Outside Reading in the City

My students need a place to sit for outside classroom. These 6 beach chairs will create the optimum learning environment for students to create their best work in the outdoors.

My Students

I work with students that struggle with grade level reading, reading comprehension and higher order thinking skills. Most of my students are multilingual and have varying cultural backgrounds. More than 70% of my students come from low-income households. My students range from 8-12 years old. They are easily motivated. It seems that no matter the activity, I have willing and eager participants in the classroom.

My students are interesting, fun and inquiring individuals who love to learn.

I consider myself lucky; I work with the best students in the world!

My Project

Students learn from experiences. They relate best to the world around them. Not only is outside reading an incentive, but an effective instructional tool that I have used for years.

At most inner city schools in New Jersey, the only outside area we have to utilize for outside classroom consists of a slab of pavement.

It is essential that students have a place to sit while working and reading outside. We would use the beach chairs for our outside classroom while reading and discussing literature.

Life is about different experiences. If we have the ability to utilize the outside classroom, our students will become more well rounded individuals.
