"One classroom fits all"..not! For many years throughout education, we have expected our classrooms to grow and evolve using this idea. However, it is time for a change. I want my classroom to be "different" and for the students to be excited about learning!
I have a class of 18 wonderful 1st graders.
I am the language inclusive teacher for 1st grade and as such, I must continue to find varied and exciting ways to teach and engage my students. My students are unique with a myriad of learning styles. In order to encourage and support my students, I need to adapt to each of their learning styles. With a strong foundation, my students can consistently be pushed to greater achievement.
The reasoning behind this project is to give my students choices. I don't want my students molded and fitted into a standard cookie-cutter model. I want them to think outside of the box and actively search for different ways to learn and engage. The chairs will allow my more active students to move, while at the same time, providing the opportunity to still finish their work. The iPad is a technological tool that most students can become engrossed in. Since they are already familiar with the iPad, having it available in the classroom will lend itself to continued use.
This project will provide alternative seating for my students who have difficultly staying focused and in their seats.
The chairs will provide students with the chance to complete their work and become better learners. The iPad will provide the needed technology piece that is missing in my classroom.
