My Project

Introducing a bocce set into my French language learning curriculum will enhance the way my students engage with the language and culture. By incorporating bocce (pétanque), a popular sport in French-speaking regions, I am creating immersive and experiential learning opportunities that go beyond traditional classroom methods.

Firstly, playing bocce provides an authentic context for language acquisition, allowing students to apply vocabulary related to sports, directions, strategy, and social interactions in a meaningful way.

They will practice conversational French naturally as they strategize, communicate with teammates, and celebrate victories.

Secondly, bocce fosters cultural appreciation and understanding. Through this activity, students will explore the rich heritage of bocce in French-speaking countries, learning about its history, significance in local communities, and the values it embodies. This deeper cultural insight enhances their overall language learning experience and promotes cross-cultural competence.

My goals for this project extend beyond language proficiency. I aim to cultivate a love for the French language and culture among my students, instilling in them a lifelong passion for learning and exploring the world. By integrating bocce into my curriculum, I am fostering not only linguistic skills but also teamwork, critical thinking, and cultural awareness.

This project also includes a $100 gift card for educational resources on Teachers Pay Teachers to have access to lessons created by other French teachers. I use lessons created by other French teachers to find inspiration in developing more engaging lessons and projects.

Our district's textbooks for French are over 18 years old, and they do not meet the California World Languages Standards.

Creating materials for four different levels of French can feel daunting at times. At times, accessing materials developed by other teachers is very helpful. I constantly revise and improve the resources I purchase on this website so that they meet my students' needs.
