Being able to place a fresh, beautiful copy back into our classroom has been incredibly special for both the students and for me as a teacher. Our students love retelling the story and using props to act it out, which builds both comprehension and confidence.\r\n\r\nThe Gossie books were especially meaningful during our farm animals unit. Students were able to connect the stories directly to what we were learning, helping them identify animals, build vocabulary, and talk about friendships and routines in a way that felt relevant and exciting. The Froggy books bring so much laughter into our room while helping students understand routines, emotions, and cause-and-effect, and they are a personal favorite of mine to read aloud! At the time, I was living in Washington state and she was in California. I had just spoken to her and she seemed fine. By the end of the day, I received a call that I needed to fly out immediately; her time was running out. By the time I could make travel arrangements, I could not fly out soon enough and lost her within 12 hours.\r\n\r\nIt was at that time that it decided to move back home, to San Diego, California. It was not easy, finding a job as a teacher because so many others had lost their jobs. I was lucky enough to be offered a position and had two weeks to resign from my current position, move back to San Diego, set up my room, and even had to find housing. With this quick turnaround, I had to leave every incredible book behind. By the time I got into my new classroom, I had four empty bookshelves. The move was very expensive. A coworker told me about the Donors Choose program, and I immediately made an account. This was back in early August 2025. To be honest, I forgot about my request. In December, I was notified that my project was fulfilled. I actually cried in front of my student students. Even more exciting was when the book started to come in. My students, all freshman, we're so excited to see their new teachers bookshelves start to be filled with books that were donated by generous donors. Even though I cannot replace my mother, seeing my students' happy faces is a image I will never forget. These books will be used to help students increase their vocabulary, learn how to be better readers, and intern better writers and speakers.
