Outdoor Weather Station Supplies to Help Shower Students with Knowlege

My students need weather monitoring materials for an outdoor weather station to be used in our school garden/outdoor classroom.

My Students

Teaching in a low-income, high poverty region of Gary, Indiana, I am inspired by the learners at my high school. My students are record breakers! My students are the most intelligent, hard-working, and dedicated people you will ever meet. They work hard to overcome daily challenges to pursue an excellent high school and college education. My students face adversity on a daily basis and continue to push the boundaries conventional education.

Most of my students are not only pursuing a high school diploma but also working toward advanced college degrees, simultaneously!

We have had 13 students achieve a high school diploma while also receiving an Associates Degree. One of my students has even earned a Bachelors Degree prior to her high school graduation! With students who are high achieving, I am looking to expand their opportunities with resources that my students can use to enhance their creativity.

By supporting our projects, you are contributing to some of the brightest and curious minds I have had the pleasure to teach. With your generosity, we can work hard to ensure that students have the resources to expand their education and exploration beyond what was previously thought possible.

My Project

Our students are passionately revitalizing a previously unoccupied area of our school facade with an outdoor classroom and school garden. A school weather station will help students to gain scientific and mathematic observation skills that directly relate to the "fruits" of their labor.

Students are requesting an outdoor thermometer to measure ambient temperature; a wind sock for wind direction and speed calculations; a scale to measure the mass of items in the garden; a rain gauge to help determine watering requirements; a chalkboard to use for instruction; and an analog clock to help with time telling skills.

We plan to anchor all of these materials to an outdoor learning center in front of the school. This will allow all of the students and the science and math departments to use the outdoor space to help illustrate the greater practicality of measurement and calculations with tangible materials. This station will be a fun way for instructors to teach state standards from elementary through high school!
