This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work at a Title I school in Tampa, FL. I teach a blended class of Pre-k VPK students blended with Pre-k students with special needs.
My students are amazing little humans who learn best through play.
They are learning how to play, share, and be a friend. They are also learning to work with and be accepting with kids of all abilities.
I usually have 10 students that are typically developing and 8 students with special needs such as Autism, Down Syndrome, Speech/Language delays, Cerebral Palsy and/or Developmental Delays.
The majority of my class is also learning English as a second language and living below the federal poverty level.
The items I requested are to bring my kids as well as other Pre-k classes and special needs classes together through play. I requested durable storage bins because our current ones have finally rotted through and broke. This will allow us to keep the toys in a safe place and prevent theft of our equipment.
The rockers will assist our students with sensory needs. The playground balls, ball toss games and bean bag toss will help the kids learn to work together, share, and take turns.
The visors will be used to go through the hallways and cafeteria. They have the students name and student number attached which helps our non-verbal students. The lanyard will hold keys for the storage bins and the calendar will be used to schedule playground times for classes.
