Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
It is important that my students have an opportunity to observe, investigate, and experiment with planting and become their own gardeners. I have requested pots, a trowel, and flower seeds for them to sow. They will be able to place the soil in their own buckets to use for their plants as they transfer the soil to their planter pots.The children will each have their design your own collage pot to decorate, then they will add Miracle-Gro potting mix and the seeds so that they can be part of the beginning process of planting. They will observe their individual plant on a weekly basis, which they can then replant outdoors, and continue looking after the various plants while enjoying outdoor play. The children will draw pictures and label it as part of their observations and investigation while learning ourside.
Children learn best through first-hand experiences in and out of the classroom.
I believe this will be great for them because they will learn all about the planting process and evolution. They kids can use the sidewalk chalk to draw the different flowers that will be growing. The visors would be helpful to protect the kids from the hot sun when they are outside. I have also requested a foldable wagon cart to carry and wheel around all their planting supplies. They will ultimately come away with being young Pre-K gardeners.
