Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are curious, eager to learn, and passionate about making a difference in the world. They come from diverse backgrounds, many facing economic challenges, but they all share an enthusiasm for environmental science. For many, this class is their first real opportunity to explore the outdoors and learn about environmental issues firsthand. They are determined to understand the science behind ecosystems, climate change, habitats and conservation, but they need more than textbooks to bring these lessons to life.

These students thrive when they can engage in experiential learning—observing wildlife, collecting data, and conducting field experiments in real-world settings.

However, they face financial barriers that make it difficult to access the outdoor gear necessary for overnight field trips and camping experiences. With your support, we can provide the tools they need to fully immerse themselves in the outdoors and take their learning to the next level.

Our project is designed to empower students to become environmental stewards, impacting both their community and the surrounding environment. By engaging in outdoor education experiences that include sustainability projects like habitat restoration, water testing, and trail maintenance, students will directly contribute to preserving local ecosystems. These activities not only teach science and environmental ethics but also encourage students to take action in their own neighborhoods.

I am requesting headlamps, sleeping mats from Sea to Summit, and a camp light to support our environmental science class’s upcoming overnight field trips. These essential items will ensure that students are comfortable, safe, and well-prepared for nighttime activities and camping in remote areas as they engage in fieldwork.
