Outdoor Fun!

Help me give my students an opportunity to develop social skills in a fun and playful learning environment. Outdoor games equipment will help me teach my students to have good sportsmanship, set boundaries, and be active with classmates!

My Students

A joy to teach, this year's 6th graders are an amazingly kind group. They are energetic, hard-working, and enjoy playing organized games as a class and an entire grade level group.

While Covid has impacted learning in many ways, my students also need opportunities to interact with each other in positive ways through organized activities.

My students need every opportunity to learn to positively interact, learn to set boundaries, and play in a structured and positive environment.

My Project

COVID has impacted students in so many ways. By purchasing outdoor equipment, students will have the opportunity to develop sportsmanship and fair play, set boundaries with peers, and just have fun interacting in person with each other.

All students need the opportunity to develop social skills in a fun and safe learning environment.

Last year, I taught online for one semester, then I went back into the classroom during the second semester to teach students who were coming back to the classroom from online learning. More than anything, my students wanted to play organized games and spend time working in groups. This taught me that my students really missed the social aspect of school and needed me to provide opportunities to play and teach social skills and how to interact with each other. If we started the day with an outdoor game, the rest of the day went smoothly with learning all the other content areas. On days that we did not get to play outdoor games, my students had trouble staying focused and getting assignments completed. For me, taking time to teach students to interact in a positive manner through play has become just as important as teaching all the content areas.

During the school day, I take time to provide a structured activity during the unstructured time (recess/lunch). By doing this, the behavior of 6th graders has improved tremendously and has given students time to have fun playing games they might not have experienced before. The outdoor equipment that I have requested will help me give students a fun, structured, and positive way to teach an activity and social skills to students.
