Outdoor Drawing and Conversation Inspiration

My students need the outdoor blackboards for outdoor playtime. Children go out to play and they like to draw with chalk. They are starting to draw directly on the bricks of the school building. Yikes!

My Students

Many children in my class come from different cultures, speak different languages, and they also come from a variety of different economic backgrounds and receive free or reduced price lunch.

My class is a diverse group of wonderful children, all eager to learn!

We are limited in the amount of money that is provided to us to be able to purchase necessary materials. Our school serves students in grades PreK-5th and provides rigorous academics, fantastic teachers and a safe learning environment.

My Project

These outdoor blackboards will be shared by about 300 children in our primary park playground. This space is used by prekindergarten, kindergarten, first and second grades daily.

Children enjoy drawing outside on the ground but some are starting to draw on the actual bricks of the school building so these will give our artists an appropriate place to draw and share their work thereby increasing conversation, ideas, language and keeping our yard looking beautiful.

These chalkboards will enhance their play space, give more options for children's imaginations and encourage interaction and sharing among students. Who knows? Our next Picasso, Van Gogh, Cezanne, Gauguin, Klee or Rodin may be waiting in the schoolyard!
