Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Did you know that about 65% of people are visual learners? This means they learn best by seeing rather than simply hearing. Visual learners need what they are learning to be accompanied by pictures, words and diagrams.
My second graders attend elementary school in East Boston.
Most of my students are bilingual and in the process of learning English as a second language. They are curious and eager learners who benefit tremendously from visual representations of the curriculum. Our school is considered low-income and has been hit hard with budget cuts and therefore many of the materials and furniture have seen better days.
My Project
Our whiteboard is no longer white, it's scratched and it is covered in years of classroom grime. With our brand new whiteboard students will be able to interact in a more visual way with the curriculum. I will be able to project pictures, diagrams and videos on to our clean white board to enrich the learning experience. Students will finally be able to clearly see what I have written on the board, rather than squinting to discern my words from the gray, scratched mess that once was a white board. They will also be able to write on the white board to show their peers their learning.
This white board will help the approximately 15 students in my class who are statistically likely to be visual learners.
It will also help all of my English Language Learners and students with disabilities by providing visual reinforcement. With your help, I can make sure that all students in our room succeed.
