This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work at an elementary school in an industrial suburb of Houston. Our population consists of grades kindergarten through fourth grade from many culturally diverse populations. The students' families are predominantly blue collar and have a passion for their children's education but have limited resources. Our community was also recently affected by Hurricane Harvey displacing many of our students and staff members. Our school is also Title I meaning our population is comprised of at least 40% economically disadvantaged families.

The efforts and energy of all faculty and staff are focused towards fulfilling our mission "to provide a positive educational experience for all children."

We are committed to guiding children in a positive and supportive manner so that our students achieve academic success and develop responsible social skills.

My Project

Now, more than ever, parents are conscious of safety risks to their children, and schools are held accountable for ensuring the safe release of students. Curb Smart makes sure every child makes it home safely.

When the school day is done, your child is likely one of hundreds of students eager to get out of the school building.

With all of the distractions and our ever changing schedules, it is time for a better way!

Dismissal can be the most chaotic time of the school day for students and staff. Curb Smart eliminates the need for confusing rosters or papers. This system eliminates miscommunicated pick-ups and ride changes, and walkie-talkies or PA systems that can be hard to hear with multiple students and staff in one location. Curb Smart is an easy to use tablet application that instantly synchronizes pick-up lane arrivals allowing school administrators inside and outside to coordinate the organized release of students using tablets. Administrators and school staff can easily release students to waiting cars in the order the cars arrive. Every staff member is connected to the same system both inside and outside the school building. The application instantly synchronizes across all devices ensuring accountability for every child being picked up.
