Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are young learners, ranging from early four-year-olds about to turn five to young five-year-olds. My students are learning to sit and listen quietly to a story being read, they are learning to participate respectfully in a group setting, and learning what personal space is all about. The fundamentals of Pre-K are being taught and they are eager to learn.
My students are eager learners that come from many different backgrounds.
They love to be social with one another and are ready to be in school.
Some are read to at home and some learn what being read to is like when they step into my classroom. They have fun personalities and constantly ask questions because of their curiosity of the world around them. They learn the best with hands-on creating and learning. My school is a Title 1 school, full of diversity.
My Project
Writing workshop is a place my students will learn to make books. Making books allows my students to develop stamina for writing, helps them to understand the process of composition and decision - making, they begin to understand genre, purpose, and audience. It connects them and helps them to understand the connection between readers and writers.
Students need to be given the time, space, and the materials to make books.
The time will be given to them. Space will be up to them. By using the lap boards, the students can choose a place around the classroom to work individually or even with a partner to make their books if they do not want to sit at their tables. You cannot make a book without materials. By stapling sheets of plain paper together and giving them crayons, colored pencils, and markers, their imaginations can take control and creativity and shine.
