Our Spring Fling With Planting

Help me give my students vegetable seeds, fertilizer, and worm castings to get us ready for spring planting, which is the perfect activity for earth science and life science.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students go to an inner-city school that has a high percentage of English learners. One hundred percent receive free breakfast and lunch. Even with a high poverty background, my students are wonderful and are eager learners.

Amidst the different challenges we face in the inner-city school, we try to provide our students with activities that will add to and enrich their experience inside and outside the classroom.

These students are very open to opportunities for learning and experiencing new things.

My Project

Planting vegetables is a perfect way to introduce students to life science and nutrition. Part of our curriculum is learning about plant life cycles and what better way to do this than by growing our own vegetables.

Not only will they see first hand the various stages of plant growth, but this will also be a good springboard for teaching about good nutrition and responsibility.

As they maintain a vegetable garden, it is up to the students to do what's necessary to promote healthy plant growth with my guidance.

As a culmination, we plan to create some healthy dishes with the (hopefully) bountiful harvest we will produce.
