My students need to have access to a calming space (including ball chairs, a trampoline, coloring books, and more) where they can refocus and be prepared for learning.
Our school is a public elementary school with students from kindergarten to sixth grade. We serve a community of around 800 students. Our students are culturally, socio-economically and academically diverse.
All students in our school learn best when they are calm, focused and mentally ready to learn.
A mindfulness space will help support the emotional health and well-being of our students. Students will have access to this room throughout the day and can then return to their classrooms ready to access the curriculum.
My Project
Iur school is aiming to create a calming space for students to access during the school day. This space will provide children a location to calm and focus themselves so they can be better prepared for learning and interacting with others throughout the school day.
In order to create the space, we need your help.
We have created a list of items we are in need of for our mindfulness lab and have written a grant for these items through DonorsChoose.org. The items requested will provide a comforting space with different types of seating, including bean bag chairs and a futon. The yoga balls and trampoline will give students a way to release some energy. The sand, coloring books and fidget tools provide students with a way to distract their minds.
