My students need a large class rug on which to gather during group time that will also help our classroom to be more inviting and cozy.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach third grade in a rural, Title One (low-income/high poverty) elementary school. My students have varied academic, physical and emotional needs, and often arrive at school tired, hungry or worried. Yet, they greet me each morning with "Good morning!" and "What are we doing today?" and a resilience that I admire!
I want to ensure that the classroom is a welcome, safe, cozy environment that they enjoy entering each morning, and that the classroom environment also supports our daily routines and expectations as well.
This project will help with both of those goals!
My Project
Our current rug is unraveling around the edges (which is not only less-than-pretty and unsafe, but proves to be a distraction as students pick at the strings during carpet time). Unfortunately, it is also too small to fit the whole class on, which inevitably results in several students slowly drifting away from the group as we are gathered. Lastly, the pattern on the green-ish rug is also extremely distracting, particularly to my students who are easily overwhelmed by their environment!
Classroom rugs not only promote positive behavior, but they also help to create a warm, inviting environment!
As you can gather, our current rug unfortunately, has the opposite impact. This one change can have an impact on the overall feeling and behavior in our classroom. Thank you in advance for any help you are able to offer!
