This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are prekindergarten students who are economically disadvantaged. Most come from homes with limited learning opportunities and resources. When they are introduced to the opportunity to discover and learn, they are very excited. Our class is a chance for these children to have experiences that will prepare them for kindergarten and beyond!

Since our classroom is an early childhood classroom (4 year olds), our children's learning is focused on playing.

They think they are playing, but we really have lots of learning hidden in there!

My Project

Our class could change how they learn with 3D pens. 3Doodler pens produce a small stream of plastic that can be formed into almost anything the children can think of! These 3D pens will allow our students to explore many scientific and mathematical concepts, while at the same time they will be able to learn basic concepts of numbers and letter recognition. These concepts would include, but not be limited to, engineering, matter, and spacial awareness.

By using these pens, our students will be able to make their own creations and learn higher level math and science skills by doing so.

An example of a beginning activity with the students may be just making towers. They would need to learn how the tool works, but then they could also experiment with what it takes to add different aspects to their tower, bonus learning would be comparing their tower with their friends. Another activity that our students could be presented with would be making their own letters and numbers (a fun way to learn those concepts). Finally, a higher level activity could be for them to figure out how they could take their towers and turn them in to a bridge with the pen! These are a few examples, but I can see the learning being limitless with these amazing pens!
