Our class is a strong community of learners. Each child is learning to be independent and productive in their learning. A barrier in low income schools is providing our students with technology experience they may not otherwise be given at home. School funding makes supplying technology difficult.
Our community of learners are eager and excited about learning.
They are excited and engaged when at school. Our school focuses on meeting the families where they are and helping remove barriers to providing enriching environments and opportunities for their children. Our building is a low income ODE focus school and attempts to reduce the disparities between socioeconomic communities through after school programs, intervention programs, and additional supports for families.
My Project
The laptop will act as a portable interactive listening center for a small group of children. Not only will students enjoy reading, writing and listening to stories with the aide of the laptop, but students will develop functional computers skills that are critical to today's culture. Our students do not have access to computers in the classroom, making it difficult to integrate technology into the classroom daily. Students will learn to start and open programs, write reading responses, participate in guided reading, record responses, and create diagrams. The large screen on the laptop will provide a comfortable workspace for a small group to work together and build collaboration skills. I have requested a wide range of digital books for first and second grade readers. Books requested include: From Seed to Plant, There''s a Nightmare in My Closet, Rosies Walk, I Read Signs, My Five Senses,
Picture for Harold''s Room, Morris the Moose, Hi! Fly Guy, and My Tooth Is Loose.
Donations to this project will not only support this class of learners but will continue to support future readers, writers and explorers.
Creating a digital library will ensure access to materials that will not wear year after year and need to be replaced. Selecting high interest nonfiction and fiction ebooks will motivate readers to find and engage with exciting text on a deeper level. Students will become more confident at navigating the technological world.
