My Students
My two Kindergarten classes are filled with 42 eager and excited students who can’t wait to become readers. Not only are their minds ready to be filled with knowledge, but just as important, their hearts are ready to learn.
I teach my students important foundational reading skills, especially phonemic awareness and phonics, to help them become excellent life-long readers.
I start by meeting with small reading groups each day during our literacy block. While I work with each group, the other students are completing valuable, engaging, and differentiated activities that provide support as they learn the skills necessary to identify and manipulate sounds then connect them to printed letters and words.
My Project
Students will experience happy hearts when working on a touchscreen Chromebook using interactive programs and resources such as Boom Cards and Lexia to achieve proficiency with phonics and phonemic awareness.
Students who can distinguish and manipulate sounds have a stronger understanding of the relationship between sounds and written letters and words; they are more likely to become successful, life-long lovers of reading.
Students will be given direct access to phonemic awareness and phonics practice on the Chromebook during small reading groups. Also, students who struggle with the skills being taught and practice will use this Chromebook for academic interventions.
