This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a Title 1 school in College Point, NY. More than half of our students come from low income homes.

Our class is an ICT classroom, with a combination of General Education students and students with Individualized Education Plans.

We have 26 students in our class, with a full time General Education and Special Education teacher. Having two teachers allows us the opportunity to work in small groups throughout the day. During each subject a small group of students will meet with each teacher at the carpet to continue learning. It is difficult for our students to focus and to complete their work without a sturdy, comfortable place to lean when not working at a desk.

My Project

These lap desks will help our students who work with the teacher in small groups at the carpet by giving them a place to lean and work. It’s difficult for many of our students to stay focused during lessons and small group instruction. Having these portable desks will eliminate some of the issues they have focusing by allowing them a sturdy, portable workspace. When they are organized and comfortable we can do great things! Without these, they are hunched over and writing on the floor. These would make a huge difference in our classroom! I can’t wait to try them!
