This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This is the first year in a very long time that our school has had a music program. There are several guitars left from external programs that were in place years ago, but all of them have broken strings and aren't playable. The 7th and 8th graders in our new middle school program are so excited to have music class, as many come from schools where they didn't have music classes at all. When I asked the students what instrument they would most like to learn, so many of them said that they would love to play the guitar.
With these new strings, I'll be able to make these guitars playable so that my students can fulfill their dreams of learning how to play!
In addition to learning how to play the guitar, we will also use them as a tool for creating original compositions in our songwriting unit. Also, students will learn how to collaborate with each other to create arrangements of songs in our modern band unit at the end of the year.
